Welcome To Montana Poodles...
The affix 'Montana' was granted by the English Kennel Club in the year 1987. The affix 'Montana' is owned by myself (Nicola Watkins) & my daughter (Kat Watkins) who grew up very much in the showing community. Our passion for dogs has proved rather 'hereditary'! My love for dogs as a child only grew when given the chance to help out at my uncles kennels, this reinforced my passion to own these wonderful animals. Growing up, there was always a poodle at home. Our first poodle, a toy 'Lucky' won over my heart & i quickly fell in love with the breed.
From then on i've always had a poodle at my side. We originally started out in Toy poodles, then gradually our interest broadened to Miniatures & then finally the Standards. We had great success in standard poodles with a Top Winning Champion 'Montana Beware The Cat woman For Vanitonia', owned by myself, Roger Stone & Lee Cox of the famous Vanitonia kennels. Although loving the standards dearly, my heart was with the toys & miniatures. Gradually we stopped showing the standards & concentrated on the 'little-uns', though always having the standards at home. Over the years we've had great success with the toys. in 2010 Katie decided to breed her own first litter of miniatures & kept a dog puppy who has continued to keep our miniature line going, though we only breed a miniature litter every 4-5 years.
In 1991, my daughter Katie (Kat) was born followed by my son Joshua in 1995. With two young children, i decided to downsize to the toys & miniatures though always having a couple of standards. From a young age Katie showed interest in the poodles, the showing & the grooming. By 6 she was starting to learn to bath, dry & clip our ever patient pets ! At 9 she began competing in Junior Handling at Championship level with huge success & showed a very natural & special connection with the dogs. In her early teens began to show in the breed classes too. Despite being very capable of grooming the pets coats & bathing & drying show coats, after much moaning she was allowed to get the scissors out on the show dogs - & we've never looked back. She now grooms & handles all our show dogs.
Our dogs are all primarily our pets, our show dogs are our pets, all our dogs live in the house & sleep on our beds.
Originally born & bred in Jersey, Channel Islands in 2000 we made the move of a lifetime to the UK . Although plans didn't work out as hoped we brought a country cottage & land a rural village in Somerset. Surrounded by fields, horses & alpaca's we certainly couldn't complain at the outcome! Moving to the UK also enabled us to attend many more dog shows & give our dogs the best possible chance at success.
